What are the Chances?

What are the chances – that on a day

when the sky is a spectacular vivid blue,

and white fluffy clouds are swirling with the breeze,

and the sun is sending rays of yellow warmth,
and the trees are unfurling their emerald green leaves,

and the flowers are bursting forth with a rainbow of pinks and purples,

and the birds are singing colorful love songs to their mates,

what are the chances that an innocent young boy

riding along the blacktop on his ruby red scooter

in the middle of a most colorful afternoon
would be killed by a drunk driver?

For Najeeb Green-Lewis,

The chances were one in one.

Please don’t drink and drive.

How horrible. Was he one of your students?
No, he was our next door neighbor at our old house. Very sad.
His poor parents.

He was a student of mine a couple years ago. When he smiled it would light up the room. I am in such shock. I hope he knew how much I enjoyed having him for a student. He was a great kid.
It all seems so senseless
and leaves one with such emptiness.
I hope he is in a better place.
Najeeb was a pleasant well-mannered young boy that my son used to play with in Najeeb's old neighborhood. This tragedy will definitely have an effect many, as Najeeb was child with a smile that could brighten up any day. He will be missed, and though he is in a better place now, we hate to see him go so soon. His family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh, my, there are no words. Heartbreaking...It just makes you want to lock your loved ones up and never let them leave your side.

I am sorry for you that you have lost a friend.
I know how hard that can be.
Just keep him in your heart.
There he can live forever. :-)
